Why PMP?
There can be several reasons for one to do a PMP.
1) You wanted to gain and prove professional knowledge in Project Management.
2) You are looking for a job change or promotion and wanted to boost you resume
3) It is a mandatory goal set by your supervisor
These are some common reasons for many IT professionals to do PMP when they complete 8 – 10 years, especially in the ITES. In general, after getting their bachelor's degree in engineering or a post graduation in science, one start their carrier as developer in ITES and slowly in a span of 8 years move to the Project Management role.
For one to be a IT project manager, in most cases, there is no 'have to' for a formal degree or diploma from a business school. It is mostly with experience in the IT domain they move to the project manager role.
This could be little different in other industries for example Manufacturing or Retailing, it is common for a Manager to have a formal education from a Business school either in General management or Finance or at times, specific to their domain itself.

Project Management Skill
Many project managers (not the certified) take project management lightly. It is not only the PMs but also the Org, their policies etc. takes this skill lightly or takes this for granted. If one is good in programming, he should be good in project Management also.. is the theory here. Developers are “promoted” as Managers without evaluating the fact that they may not deliver in this role as effective as they are as developers.
Success of any project is the responsibility of the PM. Surveys says only 30% of the projects are successful. Means only 30% of the managers are successful. That clearly shows the lack of professional success in this role.
With these facts in hand, Org now realizes the importance of Project Management.
Let me ask you a question
With a proper training and knowledge in project management, you would have done this Right the First time.. read it again.. Right at the first time and every time, consistently. That is exactly what is Project Management skill all about.
PMP certification is a proof for the project management experience under your belt. Moreover, thousands of professionals are PMP certified already and will be certified in the coming years. The impact of these newly certified Project Managers would give a strengthened link between programs, initiatives and organizational strategy.
