PMP Application Process

Application for PMP credential

You can apply Online for pmp credentials.  The online application contains the following steps

1)PMP Certification Examination Application Form
This section consists of three pages and includes all of your general information: name, address, contact information, educational background. This section can be completed quickly..

Note: If you do not have a Degree, then the requirement for PM experience will be 7500PHrs and not 4500Phrs

2)Project Management Experience Verification Form

As we discussed in the eligibility for PMP, remember, you need

• Minimum of 4500 hours of project management experience.
• Project management experience dating back at least three years from application submittal date.
• Project management experience not dating back further than eight years from the application submittal date.
• Minimum of 36 months of project management experience (gaps in experience and overlapping experience will not be counted).
• Project management experience is required in each of the following process areas when all projects are totaled, but not on each project: Initiating,   Planning , Executing , Monitoring and Controlling , Closing

You have to enter the following details in a work sheet that will be provided online.

You need to give your Project Management Experience by project (for all projects) until the total hours equals or exceeds the requirements

Start with your first project : 

Project Name, Your Project role , start date, end date, Industry   and for this project you need to give further information like
Organization Name, address and contact details , and a contact Name of a person whom PMI may contact to verify your experience!

After this comes the trivial task.    You have to specifically give the appx hours you spent in each task to manage the project
Ex, Initiation tasks will include

1. Conduct project selection methods to evaluate the feasibility of new products or services
2. Identify key stakeholders and perform analysis to gain buy-in and requirements for the success of the project.
3. Define the scope of the project based on the organization need to meet the customer project expectations.
4. Develop the project charter and review it with key stakeholders to confirm project scope, risks, issues, assumptions and constraints as well as obtain project charter approval from the project sponsor.
5. Identify and document high level risks, assumptions and constraints using historical data and expert judgment.

Similarly for the other Phases of Planing, execution, Monitoring&Control and Closure.


At the end you need to give a summary of the project management tasks that you managed for this project between 300 and 550 characters.


Please note: The system does not do any do any validation on the hours against each task. It just sumps up . Even if all of your project management experience is given in planning, the system does not reject you. But I am not sure if there will be any rejection afterward !!   So, please take time and complete your application correctly.

3) Project Management Education Form  Once you complete the work experience, you should then give details on training. This is simple and pretty straight.  You Only have to mention training name, institute, dates , total and qualifying hours.
